Employee Spotlight – Sophia Dewey

Next up for our Employee Spotlight is Sophia Dewey, New Business Coordinator.

Describe yourself in 3 words …

Adventurous, Sociable, Kind

1. How long have you been working at Oadby Plastics and on the Prep-Pro brand?

I joined Oadby Plastics in June 2018, so it is just over 4 years that I’ve been here. I started working on the Prep-Pro brand in April 2021 when I joined the New Business team.

2. What inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

I was previously a Beauty Therapist; I loved the job but struggled with the environment⁄working hours. I wasn’t happy and knew I needed a change, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do. A job for an administrator role came up at Oadby Plastics so I thought I’d give it a go and really loved it. Everyone at Oadby is so nice and welcoming, I felt like I fit straight in.

3. What does your job entail?

I work in the New Business Team with my colleague Liz. We deal with any brand-new customers that approach Oadby for our products and services. We also look after our Prep-Pro range of products which includes our Premium Chopping Boards that are produced in house at Leicester from our stock material.

4. What’s been your proudest accomplishment since working at Oadby Plastics⁄Prep-Pro?

Obtaining a testimonial from our customer Chef Alain Roux to publish on our website. His restaurant ‘The Waterside Inn’ in Berkshire has 3 Michelin Stars.

5. What’s the most exciting thing you are working on right now?

We are planning to visit restaurants in the local area to introduce them to our range and show what we can offer. It would be great to supply to cafés and restaurants that we are familiar with and love to dine in!

6. What was your first job?

I was a Gymnastics coach at the club I was part of. I coached ages 2-10 for 2/3 years before training in Beauty.

7. What one skill do you think everyone should learn?

Money management skills – you finish school not being taught the basics to survive in ‘the real world’.

8. Recommend a TV show and⁄or book you have recently watched⁄read?

‘Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway’ – although I haven’t read this recently, I was asked to read this when I had a fear of flying that controlled me. This book helped to change the way I deal with difficult, uncomfortable, and anxious situations. It’s helped millions overcome fears and live a better life.

9. What do you do for fun outside of work?

Bottomless brunch – any excuse to drink an obscene amount of Prosecco based cocktails.

10. Tell us one interesting thing about yourself that people maybe unaware of?

I can do the worm! I also have hyper extensive elbows… if you’re squeamish look away!

We would like to thank Sophia for taking the time to participate.
